Orizzonte Sistemi Navali has signed a contract with OCCAR, with a total value of approximately €3.7 billion, of which approximately €1.3 billion is in option, for the development, production and in-service support of two new-generation DDX units for the Italian Navy.
A strategic programme marking the beginning of a generational leap in the operational and technological capabilities of the Italian Navy, through new solutions designed to address increasingly complex and interconnected maritime scenarios characterised by rapid technological evolution.
With deliveries scheduled for 2033 and 2035, the new units will incorporate advanced air and missile defence capabilities, digitalisation, automation, command and sensor integration, as well as multi-domain control systems, next-generation technologies and systems.
At the heart of the programme will be a strong integration between the platform and the combat system, bringing together the expertise of Fincantieri, Leonardo and OSN. The combat system will integrate MBDA missile systems and the next-generation electronic warfare component developed by Elt Group, providing advanced defence capabilities and full multi-domain interoperability.
Through the DDX programme, OSN is contributing to the design and development of tomorrow’s naval capabilities today, strengthening the strategic expertise, technologies and know-how of the Italian industry.
