On 29 September, the First Sea Going of the PPX Ugolino Vivaldi was successfully completed, marking an important milestone in the vessel’s development and construction programme.
The activity was preceded by a Review, attended by representatives of the Authorities and Institutions involved in the programme, which made it possible to verify and confirm that the conditions and requirements necessary for the vessel’s first sea trial had been met.
The First Sea Going represents a key milestone in the construction and delivery process of a naval vessel, enabling the start of a series of at-sea checks and tests aimed at verifying the proper operation of the systems and onboard equipment, as well as fine-tuning them in preparation for the subsequent testing and delivery phases.
Within the programme, we act as Prime Contractor and Whole Warship Design Authority, with responsibility for ensuring the coordination and integration of the design, development and construction activities for the entire naval platform.
The construction of the vessel, with delivery to the Italian Navy scheduled for June 2027, involves Fincantieri as a strategic industrial partner, together with the contribution of numerous companies and professionals.
The achievement of this important milestone therefore demonstrates the value of teamwork and close cooperation among OSN, Fincantieri, Leonardo, all the SMEs and stakeholders involved in the programme, united by the common goal of delivering a naval vessel featuring advanced technological solutions and enhanced operational capabilities.
