Today, the Italian Navy officially received the SpartacoSchergat frigate at the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano. The vessel is the ninth unit of the FREMM (EuropeanMulti-Mission Frigate) class and was built by Orizzonte Sistemi Navali S.P.A. – a joint ve– under a contract signed
Designed as a high-capability multi-role platform, Spartaco Schergat is equipped with advanced anti-submarine warfare and maritime control systems. The ship boasts an operational range of 6,000 nautical milesand a top speed exceeding 27 knots. With a highly automated system design and cutting-edge technologies, the vessel ensures outstanding performance across various operational scenarios.
The entry into service of this new frigate marks another key milestone in the FREMM Programme, launched in 2005, which has significantly modernized the Italian Navy’s fleet. FREMM vessels are capable of carrying out a wide range ofmissions – from military defense to the protection of civilian interests.
Spartaco Schergat is built to operate in complex environments and to supportoperations, strengthening the Navy’s presence and projectioncapabilities beyond the extended Mediterranean area.
