Steel Cutting Ceremony for the Second FREMM-EVO Unit

23/07/2026

Today, at Fincantieri's integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso, the steel cutting ceremony for the second FREMM-EVO unit took place.

This marks a significant milestone, as it officially launches the construction of the new vessel, which is scheduled for delivery to the Italian Navy in 2030. The ceremony therefore represents another important step forward in the FREMM-EVO Programme.

For Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN), Prime Contractor for the FREMM-EVO contract, this programme is a tangible demonstration of efficiency and a testament to the capabilities of Italian industry: designing, integrating, and delivering complex naval systems by bringing together the excellence of Fincantieri, Leonardo, MBDA, ELT Group, and all the SMEs involved in the programme within an effective and efficient ecosystem of close collaboration with national institutions, the Ministry of Defence, the Italian Navy across its various organizations, NAVARM, and OCCAR.

The activities under the FREMM-EVO contract, signed by OSN and OCCAR two years ago, continue to progress in line with the planned schedule. Today's ceremony marks the start of the execution phase for the second unit as well.
